Bora Studios

Creative technology studio for story-driven interactive spaces. Story, design, software and fabrication in one team.

Cologne (HQ), Hamburg, London, Barcelona, Abu Dhabi, New York

The studio

Bora Studios was founded in Cologne in 2021. We develop the story, then design, program and build the interactive installation that tells it, for brands, retailers, museums and venues, from the first concept to installation and support after opening.

In one team
  • One team

Concept, design, software and hardware are developed in-house, without handovers between agencies and suppliers.

  • Own workshop

Prototypes and final builds are made and tested in our 1,500 m² workshop in Cologne before they ship.

  • Operation

Installations are built to run unattended, with remote monitoring, content updates and support after opening.

Storytelling

Every project starts with the story: who the visitors are, what they should understand or feel, and which part they play in it. Space, technology and hardware are chosen afterwards to serve that story.

Narrative & worlds
Characters, worlds and scripts, written for spaces people walk through rather than screens they watch.
Visitor journey
The sequence from arrival to exit: what people see first, where they take part and what they take home.
Interaction as story
Every mechanic moves the story forward, so visitors take part instead of watching.
Stories that continue
Built to be extended after opening with new chapters, seasons and campaigns.

Sustainability

We’re not 100% there yet, but it is part of every build, shipment and show we run.

More on sustainability →

How we build

  1. 01Sourcing materialsWe choose recycled, recyclable and certified materials wherever the build allows, and source as close to the site as we can.
  2. 02Reusing hardwareScreens, sensors, computers and custom electronics go back into stock after a show and into the next build, instead of into a skip.
  3. 03Smarter logisticsModular builds that pack flat, fewer and fuller shipments, local partners and crews instead of flying everything in.
  4. 04Monitoring powerWe measure what our installations draw, then tune hardware, content and schedules so they use less energy while they run.

Beyond the studio

  • The research vessel OceanXplorer at sea

    Oceans

    OceanX

We support organisations like OceanX, which explore the ocean and bring what they find to the rest of us.

  • A community lunch outdoors by the lake in Tanzania

    Singida, Tanzania

    Our pizzeria project

Away from screens and sensors, we run a pizzeria in Singida, Tanzania, attached to the Upendo Home for Street Children.
